Following a two-year hiatus brought on by the pandemic, Beauty Independent’s parent company Indie Beauty Media Group (IBMG), which produced Indie Beauty Expo (IBE) and BeautyX summits from 2015 to 2020, returned to live events last week with Adit Live at The Reef’s Magic Box in Los Angeles. About 60 emerging skincare, makeup, haircare, body care and beauty tool brands from all over the world exhibited at the trade show that brought buyers and retail-ready brands together in an intimate format.

To gauge their impressions of the brands and products on display, we recruited retail buyers from five very different companies—four-unit Canadian facial bar Formula Fig, nine-unit Seattle-based grocer Metropolitan Market, Finnish beauty e-tailer Olet Kaunis, clean beauty e-tailer Melanin Grace, and the Urban Outfitters Inc.-owned retailer Free People—to select a few that stood out to them.
