Communication and social interaction play vital roles in human life. They underpin how we share information and build relationships. Adhering to social distancing and stay-at-home orders has forced us to completely rethink how we communicate and interact.

While we’re adjusting, often alone, one thing’s for certain: hope and belief in our common decency remain. Even in the darkest hour, we’re spreading encouraging messages to lift each other up. The messages can be funny, sentimental or inspirational. Content on social media this week reinforced the idea that, if done well, it’s valuable to incorporate humor to engage audiences overwhelmed by bad news and tough circumstances. Here are five social media developments that recently caused me to chuckle and gave me the feels.

Over the last few years, Jason Schneidman, founder of TheMensGroomer Foundation, has been giving open-air haircuts to the homeless and collaborating with rehab centers to assist those struggling with drugs and alcohol addiction. Schneidman is using his platform and previous history with addiction to help people cope from home while offering a bit of social-distancing comical relief. See video below showing him grooming from afar with a broom.
